James G. Abruzzo serves as Vice President with DHR International, APAC at their divisional headquarters in Hong Kong. In this capacity he works directly with the President; managing global multi-national retained search projects at the functional-head and C-Levels.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Abruzzo was the head of Talent Acquisition and Operations for DHR in Asia Pacific. He managed the firm’s expansion both in personnel and geography for DHR throughout the region. There, he helped to implement and execute the firm’s strategy of growth by identifying, contacting, and retaining Asia’s top executive search consultants to DHR. Mr. Abruzzo was also responsible for the regions training, succession planning, and onboarding of new staff. During his tenure, while working directly with the global president and COO of the firm, DHR more than tripled their staff, making it one of Asia’s premier retained executive search firms. In this period, Mr. Abruzzo also directed the firm’s growth in geography by opening 6 new offices including entering into developing countries for the first time such as India, and Thailand.
Before transferring to Hong Kong to head DHR’s talent acquisition, Mr. Abruzzo was an Associate in the firms New York and New Jersey offices. In this capacity, he executed retained executive search assignments across the United States with a main focus on the non-profit sector. He also participated in search for senior level executives for DHR’s retail practice. Notable searches included CEO of a Conservancy organization in the mid-west, the General Manager and VP Development of a world famous theater in NYC, and CEO of a Chamber of Commerce in the Mid-West. He has also helped to find senior merchandising positions across the mid-western United States.
Prior to joining DHR in 2005, Mr. Abruzzo was a real estate agent with New York City’s top brokerage, and he was an entrepreneur with his own business development company based in Philadelphia.
Mr. Abruzzo is certainly a global executive; having lived, worked and studied in Florence Italy, London, and Australia. He received a degree in International Relations from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida and can speak conversational Italian.
