Hiroyuki Sekiya serves as Executive Vice President in the firm’s Tokyo office. He focuses on placing executives in senior management positions for multi-national corporations in consumer marketing and services, music entertainment and direct marketing/selling, financial services(insurance, credit cards and private equity sectors) as well as professional services (management consulting, outsourcing and agency businesses).
Mr. Sekiya has 15 years of executive search consultancy experience in Tokyo. Prior to joining DHR International, he was an Executive Director at Human Associates, Ltd., a local executive search firm. There, he successfully developed a retainer-base executive search practice for a direct marketing company and private equity funds. Previously, Mr. Sekiya worked for Tokyo Executive Search Co. Ltd., one of the oldest domestic executive search firms in Japan. He was not only instrumental in identifying and placing executives for foreign clients but also actively explored new opportunities with Japanese firms and expanded affiliation with international firms outside of Japan. He managed cross border assignments with Ward Howell International and International Technology Partners in the consumer and industrial sectors. Mr. Sekiya successfully placed CEOs in global music/entertainment and major domestic telemarketing companies. Mr. Sekiya first began his career at Mitsubishi Research Institute Ltd. as an economist and as a consultant at McKinsey & Company in their Tokyo Office. At both firms, Mr. Sekiya participated in numerous assignments serving both major Japanese and global foreign firms. He subsequently joined American Express Japan as their first Marketing Manager for the launch of their international Gold Card business. He was responsible for acquiring new card members and building the new marketing team. Additional career experience also includes Avon Products Japan, where Mr. Sekiya led the development of new product categories other than cosmetics and supported the launch of new business units and direct marketing functions. He also worked at a portfolio company managed by a private equity firm, where he took a senior management position at a domestic athletic club and successfully turned around a declining business with a CEO he recruited. Born and raised in Japan, Mr. Sekiya is fluent in English and Japanese. He holds a Master’s Degree in International Economics from Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo and earned his undergraduate degree from Sophia University.
